National UNV Assignments
Become a National UN Volunteer and serve in Lebanon
National UN Volunteers support capacity building in Lebanon. They facilitate networking and mobilize local volunteer efforts. They play active roles as interface between local communities and international organizations. UN Volunteers recruited nationally have at least three years of professional experience. They offer expertise in administration, agriculture, communication, community development, commerce, education, engineering, environment, health, information communication technology and social sciences.
Assignments usually last 24 months, however, assignments of 6 to 12 months are increasingly common.
As a NUN Volunteer, you offer your services on a voluntary basis. We support you through several benefits.
Benefits are, in principle, not measured in monetary terms determined by the labor market. Foremost is the personal satisfaction which the contact with others and success in the assignment should bring to you, the UN volunteer.
In return for your service, you will receive the following benefits:
• One-time Settling-in-Grant calculated on the duration of assignment (more than three months), which is paid to the National UN Volunteer at the beginning of the assignment when assigned to a duty station different from his or her place of recruitment. This grant is intended to help the National UN Volunteer establish him/herself in a new place of residence and to purchase certain basic household items;
• National UN Volunteers are not paid a salary for their services. Instead, they are provided with a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance, which is intended to cover their basic living expenses;
• Travel on appointment and at the end of assignment, if different than home location;
• Life, health and permanent disability insurance;
• National UN Volunteers are entitled to annual leave at the rate of 2.5 days per completed month of service; and
• Resettlement allowance calculated based on the duration of assignment (more than three months), which is paid upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
Important note: The above general provisions are summarized from the Conditions Service for National UN Volunteers.
