International UNV Assignments

Become an International UN Volunteer (IUNV) and serve abroad

International UN Volunteers support development work and humanitarian and peacekeeping operations abroad. They work with UN agencies, governmental and non-governmental organizations and UN Peace and Relief Missions. While development work is geared more towards bringing about longer-term, sustainable human development by addressing underlying socio-economic factors, interventions in post-conflict environments typically address short-term, early recovery emergency needs. While the reality is less black-and-white than this somewhat theoretical distinction, it nevertheless has practical merit.
Be included in UNV global resource bank of candidates, complete the online questionnaire , which has been, designed taking into consideration current demand-supply criteria and aims at responding quickly to your query. The screening is therefore largely done through automated process.

As an International UN Volunteer, you offer your services on a voluntary basis. We support you through several benefits. Benefits are, in principle, not measured in monetary terms determined by the labor market. In return for your service, you will receive the following benefits:

• Settling-in-Grant calculated on the duration of assignment (more than three months), which is paid to the International UNV at the beginning of the assignment;
• Volunteer Living Allowance intended to cover basic living expenses, which is paid each month;
• Travel on appointment and at the end of assignment,
• Life, health and permanent disability insurance;
• Annual leave at the rate of 2.5 working days a month; and
• Resettlement allowance calculated based on the duration of assignment (more than three months), which is paid upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
