Winners of second edition UNDP Media Award for Sustainable Human Development honored

The competition covered five categories, namely press, photography, television, radio and the young talent, the latter, a new category for students of journalism and communication arts of universities in the country. Winners in each of the four categories were awarded a first prize in cash of US$ 3000 ( US$ 1500 for the students) and a trophy. A first prize representing a trophy was also awarded to the media institution that had best covered and promoted sustainable human development during the period from 1 October 1998 to 15 January 2000).

More than 100 journalist participated in the competition and presented 217 entries. Reporting on sustainable human development was much enhanced and increased in scope and coverage throughout the period of the contest. There was also a notable increase in the coverage of the UN System and in particular of UNDP and the national and global HDR in Lebanon.

The second edition was generously supported by six companies of the private sector, which contributed in equal shares the amount of US$ 55,000. In addition, media institutions generously offered more than USD 700,000 of free advertising time and space in press, TV and radio - an unprecedented achievement in the history of the UN in Lebanon.
