ODS Officers Main Meeting for West Asia Network & Round Table Meeting On Recovery and Recycling under RMP

Beirut, Lebanon, May 31 - June 05, 2004

Within the framework of the West Asia Arab Countries' efforts to comply with the Montreal Protocol and to share experiences about the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) phase out, a regional network for ODS officers has been established in 1996 with the support of UNEP-Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA). This network meets on a bi-annual basis in one of the concerned countries and based on the meeting held in Syria in December 2003, the meeting planned for the year 2004 was held in Beirut on 2 - 5 June 2004, under the patronage of the Lebanese Ministry of Environment.

In this meeting, participants from the West Asia Network countries that attended include: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, Palestine, Iraq, Qatar, Sudan, Tunis, Macedonia, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria. In addition, representatives from different international agencies also attended: UNDP-MPU, UNIDO, GTZ, UNEP, Environment Canada, FFEM and the World Bank.

The ODS meeting was preceded by a technical meeting on RMP from 31 May - 1 June 2004 organized by UNEP-Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment - Ozone Office and UNDP Country Office. The official opening of the ODS Network Meeting was held on Wednesday June 02 at 10:00 am and ended on Saturday June 05, 2004.
