UNDP Lebanon Private sector Partnership Initiatives
For UNDP the rationale for becoming involved with the private sector for the promotion of development is not merely an issue of mobilizing non-governmental sources for funding of development programmes. It is one of recognizing the private sector as an influential, inevitable and indeed imperative agent of development. In order to achieve effective development, it is necessary to involve the business community in policy dialogue and thereby promote both the development priorities of programmes and advocacy for sustainable human development (SHD). Private enterprises constitute centers of entrepreneurship and transfer of know-how for poverty alleviation.
As of today a number of initiatives and projects have been undertaken hand in hand with business enterprises and we look forward to extend this strategic partnership with private companies who believe they have a role to play in development and a social responsibility to assume as corporations.

Private Sector partnerships are opening new challenges that have driven UNDP, both at the corporate and the local level, to prepare effective tools and guidelines. We are currently in the process of developing a broad policy in engaging strategically with the private sector but also for supporting it.
