"UNDP's work in Lebanon" a session tailored for university students
As part of its strategy to reach the public at large, the United Nations Development Programme in Lebanon organized on Tuesday 16th of February, an informative session on the work of UNDP in Lebanon at the UN House in Downtown Beirut.
The session gathered 80 students majoring in Political Sciences and International affairs, from different universities like American University of Beirut (AUB), Notre Dame University (NDU), Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and Saint Joseph University (USJ).

The Global Human Development Report 2009
The United Nations Development Programme launched the Human Development Report 2009 - titled "Overcoming Barriers: Human mobility and development" on Tuesday 6th of October 2009 at the American University of Beirut, hosted by the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policies and International Affairs.
This year's Human Development report looks at the theme of Migration and human mobility both within and beyond borders. The report presents the Human Development Index (HDI) where Lebanon was ranked 83 out of 182 countries. For more info...
Millennium Development Goals 2008 - Lebanon Report
The United Nations Agencies in Lebanon launched the second Millennium Development Goals Report 2008 (MDGR) in cooperation with the Lebanese Government and the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR). This report is the result of the efforts of a national technical committee representing different concerned ministries, government institutions and United Nations Agencies. This report provides an overview on the progress made in achieving the eight goals including extreme poverty and hunger eradication, achieving Universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, achieving environmental sustainability and creating a global partnership for development. Launch of the Arab Human Development Report 2009 "Challenges to Human Security in the Arab Countries"
"Challenges to Human Security in the Arab Countries" is the title of the fifth Arab Human Development Report (AHDR) launched on Tuesday 21st July 2009 in Beirut's Grand Serail under the high patronage and in the presence of H.E. Prime Minister Fouad Seniora.
The AHDR 2009 argues that the trend in the region has focused more on the security of the state than on the security of the people. It shows that humansecurity is a prerequisite for development, and that the widespread absence of human security in Arab countries undermines people's options. Based on these arguments, this report analyzes many issues related to occupation and military interventions, authority of the State and its security measures, volatile economy, damage of the environment, impact of climate changes, insecurity of vulnerable groups, poverty, hunger and providing health care. Toward a Citizens State
Toward a Citizens State is the fourth National Human Development Report (NHDR) for Lebanon. The first of the three was published in 1997 on Profile of Sustainable Human Development, the second in 1999 on Youth and Development and the third in 2002 on Globalization: Toward a Lebanese Agenda. Work commenced on this current report at the end of 2005 in partnership with the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR). The theme was first chosen, the general framework for the development of key concepts outlined a work plan was drawn up that included a list of background papers and brainstorming workshops and discussion groups were organized.
