Recovery:
UNDP has proactively assumed its role as recovery cluster lead. The UNDP country office convened a meeting yesterday with key partners. The session included public policy project advisers of the UNDP support programmes at the various strategic ministries. The brainstorming discussed the actual situation, and the areas in which UNDP can provide support for early and medium term recovery.
It should be noted that the recovery discussions are ongoing at various levels within the country. This includes a meeting of the syndicate of engineer also yesterday, where the size of destruction of residential buildings alone was estimated at a total of four million square meters, concentating mainly in the South and in the Southern Suburbs of Beirut.
The UNDP partnerships and network with line ministries, municipalities and civil society organizations is already an asset that would facilitate the support and leadership of the recovery process.
