Reintegration & Socio-Economic Rehabilitation of the Displaced

With the end of the civil strife, the Lebanese Government initiated a study of the displaced issue and constituted in 1992 a Ministry for the Displaced, as well as a fund for mobilizing resources for the return process. The ministry prepared a general strategy for the return of the displaced. The executive programme of the Ministry aimed at attaining the highest number of returning families making maximum use of available resources in the different sectors. The national programme aimed at the reconstruction and rehabilitation of basic infrastructure and housing, rehabilitation of the social infrastructure, development of productive economic sectors and reconciliation and reintegration. The United Nations Reintegration and Social Economic Rehabilitation Programme of the Displaced aimed at supporting the national programme for the return of the displaced with special focus on the social and economic issues related to the return process.
