Projects Database / Restoration of Livelihoods and Social Assistance in Lebanon

Project ID
00056197

Background
The project main objective is to alleviate the impact of war and to help affected communities advance out of post - war conflict poverty as rapidly as possible by providing support to revive local economics and rebuild livelihoods.
The areas that were most directly and indirectly affected were the same ones that have historically witnessed the highest poverty incidence in the country, namely South Lebanon and Bekaa. The indirect effects of the war on the economy exacerbated the conditions of extreme poverty in the country and overall increased the marginalization of a large segment of the population that was already living in difficult circumstances.
Following the rapid repairs and infrastructure rehabilitation, UNDP initiated the restoration of Livelihoods project supporting some income generating projects including such as provision of machinery to agricultural cooperatives.
The specific Objective of the project is to provide additional food possessing equipment to the women association center that will lead to the increase of capacities of these centers and expansion of production which will increase their income.

Achievements & Expected Results
The expected results of the project are:
1-Provide support to at least 21 women association cooperatives in Bekaa and South Lebanon through the provision of machineries.
2-Provide support to basic municipalities infrastructure
2-Increase productivity and generate new income
3-Expand the marketing opportunities of the targeted associations
4-Improve the economic situation of women
5-Create new job opportunities
