Background
The project aims at identifying and strengthening trade opportunities for dry-land products, including ecotourism, through increased marketing, identifying existing prospects with EU trade agreements with Lebanon, supporting Fair-trade (FT) certification while strengthening national capacity to access international markets throughout the project.
The project targets women empowerment and poverty alleviation in rural dry lands through promotion of trade with Finnish and European markets and through creation of other income-generating livelihoods such as responsible tourism.
Achievements & Expected Results
- Identification of several home-made food products of interest to Finnish consumers
- Development and protection of the trademark “DRYLANDS” and the product logo in Lebanon
- Identification of entry points in Finland for the “DRYLANDS” by-products and dispatch of a trial order to one of them for display
- Linkages established between Lebanese eco-tour operators and women cooperatives.
- Identification of more entry points in Finland/ EU countries
- Training and capacity building of other women cooperatives in dry lands
- Establishment of more linkages between the women cooperatives and other eco-tour operators in Lebanon.
