Background
A financing strategy for the implementation of the National Action Programme (NAP) to combat Desertification was developed; it includes innovative mechanisms and new donors, while mainstreaming UNCCD considerations into existing strategies.
Achievements & Expected Results
- Strategy on Resource Mobilization developed, donor schemes and availability for Lebanon reviewed.
- Four Local Action Plans prepared for Akkar, Deir El Ahmar, Tyre and Marjayoun/Hasbaya, Local Action Plans concept note prepared.
- PIU staff participated in national, regional & international desertification related workshops & conferences.
- Several concept papers submitted to international donors.
- Input into reforestation fund for UNDP.
- Participation in “HASAD” missions with IFAD, Green Plan, and GM.
- Participation in the Environmental and Social Impact assessment of the HASAD project with local expert.
- Input into and follow-up of the concept note for ENPI Agriculture funding for Lebanon.
- Development of TORs for NAP/IFS Palestine.
- Development of draft concept note for IFAD fund.
- Support to the Palestinian EQA on NAP and IFS.
- Review of program laws with the Ministry of Environment.
- Cooperation on the newly approved land use plan and mainstreaming desertification with CDR.
- Banque du Liban: ongoing cooperation on rural development and combating desertification initiative.
- UNDP ART GOLD project: Mainstreaming desertification into local development planning. Inclusion on the committee preparing the Poverty Strategy for Lebanon of a representative member from the Ministry of Agriculture.
- Ministry of Finance: Work in progress on Debt for Nature Swaps.
- Arc en Ciel: Mainstreaming desertification issues into the agriculture program of AEC support to partnership with MoAgr, development of role as funding mobilizers for desertification.
- MADA: Support to partnerships with MoAgr and donors and development of role as funding mobilizers for desertification.
- Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean: Partnered for project on Integrated Water Resources Management.
