Background
The Regional Development for Akkar project was initially the outcome of the Poverty Strategy Initiative and the Preparatory Assistance Project for Improving Living Conditions of the Poor executed by the Ministry of Social Affairs, supported by UNDP, which implemented a set of priority activities in Akkar.
The main methodology of the project is to lead the local community towards a position where it diagnoses its problems and becomes aware of it and then plan the proper solution to it within a general developmental framework. Local committees were formed in cluster villages to assess the needs of the deprived communities and plan the intervention programmes, with the technical assistance of the project team and as per the available resources.
